Director of Retail Meat Operations

We’re partnering with a well-established and growing retail meat operation seeking a Director of Retail Meat Operations to lead the day-to-day and strategic direction of a specialty meat retail business. This leader will oversee business performance, financial accountability, team development, and operational excellence—combining industry expertise with a strong business mindset.

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role that will shape the customer experience, drive operational efficiencies, and expand retail and wholesale channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily operations: staffing, scheduling, training, and performance management.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and food handling standards.

  • Design and execute growth strategies across retail and wholesale channels.

  • Deliver an exceptional, high-touch customer experience aligned with premium product offerings.

  • Implement SOPs to ensure product quality, consistency, and service excellence.

  • Develop and manage operating budgets, including labor, overhead, and cost of goods sold.

  • Analyze pricing strategies, vendor terms, and margins to optimize profitability.

  • Monitor sales performance and provide regular reporting to senior stakeholders.

  • Identify and implement cost control and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Manage cash handling procedures and financial reporting with integrity.

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels and accurate tracking systems.

  • Source and negotiate with vendors to procure high-quality products.

  • Coach the team on customer service and resolve complex issues with a focus on retention.

  • Plan and execute seasonal promotions and in-store campaigns.

  • Maintain store presentation and brand alignment.

  • Partner with marketing on local outreach and advertising.

  • Build strong community relationships and brand reputation.

  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and service expansion (e.g., delivery, e-commerce).

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, consumer preferences, and competitive activity.

  • Perform other duties as needed, including packaging, department cleaning, and assisting across departments.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in food retail management, preferably in specialty or meat retail.

  • Strong financial acumen and familiarity with budgeting and performance metrics.

  • Proven leadership and team development capabilities.

  • Deep understanding of food safety, meat product handling, and inventory management.

  • Comfortable using POS and inventory systems; strong Excel and business software skills.

  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and customer service skills.
